About Us

Before this blog, we were six women who met once a week to talk about our scary new lives, our babies plunked down beside us. From day one we created a safe place to share our bewilderment. Our top priority was to really listen to each other. In listening, we realized how similar new moms are: no matter how diverse our backgrounds, we are all overwhelmed and clueless.

As maternity leave ended for some and life moved on for all, we wrote to each other about our lives. This blog was born from those conversations. We hope you enjoy sharing our secrets.

Tightrope Mama: Mom to W. Life is a balancing act and the balls are in the air. I am a full-time working mom with a daycare kid and a husband with nearly a hundred irons in the fire.

Gray Mama: Just trying to navigate the journey of being a mom to Lo, and figuring out where I land in this messy gray existence.

East End Mama: Living in a new neighbourhood, far from my old haunts and new friends, I work from home, parent from behind my iPhone more than I should, and struggle to find a friendly playground for my daughter Cookie.

Drama Mama: Big-city actress turns into single mama/out-of-work actress, followed by desperate move to surreal Canadian backwater with former-hippie baby-daddy. Fortunately, my beautiful daughter, the Guppins, pulls me back into the real world time and time again.

Sleepwalking Mama: Mom to J-man. Sent from my wireless device (likely from a bathroom stall).

Secret Weapon Mama: Mom to Smalls. You'll be hearing from me soon.

Our avatar is our take on "hidden mother" pictures from the nineteenth century. Sometimes a baby would be photographed while held by his or her mother -- except the mother was under a blanket. Put a matte on it, and you've got a picture of a calm baby sitting against a blanket.
